Welcome to Sonlight Farms! Sonlight Farms is a small, family farm offering riding lessons, summer camps, and clinics. Our farm is situated on 80 acres and is conveniently located just north of Virginia on Minnesota's Iron Range.  Owners, Terry and Barb Sonnentag have many years of horse and farm experience. Barb has been giving riding lessons, putting on clinics, and running summer horse camps for over 20 years. We are committed to teaching individuals the abilities they need to become a confident and skilled rider.

Instructor Barb Sonnentag has over 20 years of horse experience. This experience includes horse training and showing, teaching riding lessons and running horse camps and clinics for all ages and levels. She has been a Certified Instructor of both Western and English with CHA (Certified Horsemen Association), and a volunteer instructor of NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association). Barb and her husband Terry, previously owned a Riding and Training Stable in the Twin Cities. They are now happy to offer their horse services to the Iron Range community.

We are located just north of Virginia, MN in the Iron Range area. We are situated on 80 acres next to the Superior National Forest.

Beginner Camp - June 25-27, 2014

Time: 9am - 4pm; Ages: 6-18 years old

Cost: $125

This camp is designed for boys and girls who want to become more acquainted with horses and how to ride. This camp is packed full of activities and games that focus on basic horsemanship skills and confidence around horses.

Intermediate Camp - August 13-15, 2014

Time: 9am - 4pm; Ages: 6-18 years old

Cost: $125

This camp is designed for those with some horse experience who want to improve their riding. We will focus more specifically on different disciplines of riding such as: pleasure showing, gaming, basic dressage and jumping.

Our Christian-based Summer Day camps are designed to give campers extensive riding opportunities in all sorts of disciplines. At camp we utilize both horse and farm experiences as a tool in teaching horsemanship and spiritual lessons. Campers will learn how to properly take care of and groom a horse. They will learn to ride with confidence and safety. Campers will also have an opportunity to go trail riding, play games on horseback, and make horse related crafts. Show Camp - July 9-12, 2014

Time: 9am - 4pm; Ages 8-18 years old

Cost: $150 (Sonlight's horse) or $125 (Camper's horse)

This camp is only for those who are experienced, confident riders (Ages 8+). During this camp, campers will be taught what it takes to show their horse in both pleasure and game shows. Campers will learn how to prepare themselves and their horses for the shows. They will learn to clip, bathe, braid, and polish. They will also have an opportunity to Show in our mock show and potentially a real local show.
